Fray Household: Clary lives in Park Slope, a brownstone neighborhood in western Brooklyn. There is a skylight in their building which, prior to being shot out by Simon, was filthy. Its previous owner was apparently wealthy and the home has a curving staircase and marble entryway floor. Downstairs from her lives Madame Dorothea.
Idris: “The Glass City.” The main home of Shadowhunters and where the headquarters of the Clave is, so to speak. It is a small country between Germany and France that is not accessible to mundanes due to protective spells.
The Institute: A safe-haven for Shadowhunters in New York City (Near 1st Avenue and 96th street) and the home of Jace, Alec, Isabelle. There are many rooms in the Institute, an infirmary, weaponry, library, music room, greenhouse, kitchen, etc. It can house up to two hundred people. Hodge was banished to the Institute after the Uprising. Maryse and Robert Lightwood travel between the Institute and Idris, generally toting their youngest son, Max, along with them. The Institute is holy ground and Downworlders cannot enter.
Java Jones: The coffee house-slash-cafe where Eric has his poetry reading.
Madame Dorothea's: Madame Dorothea's apartment doubles as a psychic's shop. It emits a thick scent of incense.
Nacho Mama: A hole in the wall Mexican place where Clary and Simon eat in City of Bones.
Pandemonium: An all-ages night club in the East Village. This is where Clary first meets Jace, Alec, and Isabelle and the experiences a demon first-hand.
