A Simple Solution to Casting Drama – Contest!
Alright, everyone. We are all anxious about the imminent casting of a certain Jace Wayland Morgenstern Lightwood. The other characters also need to be cast, but more faces seem to pop up for Jace than any other character. And, of course, this attention is well-deserved because Jace is… well… hot. People like to play Which Hot Actor Should Play Jace Today?, Cassie included.
These are some of the lovely young men who are being pegged by fans as our favorite golden boy:

An attractive group of young men, yes/yes? We all know that Alex Pettyfer (number four, harhar) has been offered the role. Unfortunately for Pettyfer enthusiasts, he hasn’t accepted yet. He recently had a phone conversation with Cassie, but who knows what happened there.
I started thinking: Will we ever have our perfect Jace?
And then I was watching Robin Hood: Men in Tights while pondering this very question and, fans, I found him! Of course, he’s currently 48 years old, so here’s my simple solution: A time machine.
There are a lot of actors who are blatantly too old to play Jace. There are a lot of actors who are too old for a lot of parts. But if we could get a time machine, we could totally cast Cary Elwes as Jace. Take this scene, for example. Cary has mastered the art of badassery. And over here, we have Cary as both the romantic lead and King of Snark. So if anyone has a time machine, we’ll just go back to the 80′s, swipe Mr. Elwes from the set of Another Country (and while we’re there, let’s also swipe a certain Mr. Colin Firth) and tell him we’ve got the perfect role for him.
At least, he’s my Blatantly Too Old pick for Jace. Who is yours? Let’s have a little contest to make it even more fun. There’s a bookmark in it (courtesy of Viviane Hebel) for someone who leaves a comment below with a Too-Old pick for Jace. I’ll choose a winner randomly on April 18.
Remember: They weren’t always too old.
City of Fallen Angels was released on April 5, 2011 and flew straight to the top of the NYT Bestseller list. It also debuted at #2 on the USA Today Bestseller List. A special edition with a letter from Jace can be found in the
Um… Richard Gere. He’s good-looking NOW. He was EXCESSIVELY delicious when he was younger. See:

With a little hair dye – which is entirely possible – he’d be PERFECT.
Hi there! OK time machine for me would be James Spader – definitely the bad boy thing going on and the gorgeous thing going on (and the natural blonde of course!) – plus he can really act and he can play “tortured” like no other!!!
Lynn
Completely agree with you on Cary Elwes…he was so awesome in The Princess Bride, which is one of my favorite movies of all time. But, another “too old” pick for Jace IS…….the late River Phoenix
For my “Too old pick for Jace” how about Joseph Morgan. He has just been cast as Klaus on Vampire Diaries and when I saw his picture I thought him pretty close to Jace’s features but he is 31.
My too old pick is Charlie Hunnam! His 2002 looks is exactly how I picture Jace.
Time machine Jace = Richard Gere. He is gorgeous NOW, and was gorgeous then. Also, the man can ACT besides. Hellooooooo perfect Jace.
Oh hey wait. Sorry for the double comment! I didn’t know my old one was still being moderated.
Hugh Grant.
He was probably my first actor crush when I was in elementary school, and while he still is a good-looking man, nothing compares to how he was when he was younger! Those eyes definitely have the puppy-dog pain that Jace always tries to hide – and Hugh definitely can play a smart-ass who is too well-aware of his devilish good looks
brad pitt
I agree Brad Pitt for sure around the time of Thelma and Louise.
I completely agree with Cary Elwes….that would be amazing!
I would have to say Jeremy Sumpter!
He wouldn’t be too old either, me and my older sis both think he would be pretty awesome in the role. He has the blonde messy hair, and the really nice eyes. He also is capable of looking pretty impressive in a T-shirt. I can seriously imagine him fighting off demons, like he did not too long ago in Peter Pan. He can also be sexy with a smart-ass attitude and devilish charm.
Hey! My time machine Jace is Jude Law. He’s not a natural blonde, though. But who cares! There are all sorts of hair dyes!
He’s 38 already.
He’s not really that old but older than the part of our lovely Jace. I have always liked the idea of Bradley James (arthur from merlin) to play Jace. He’s hot and has the cheeky charm we all love
tom cruise when he did interview with a vampire since he was blonde
!!
or hayden christensen!!
Heath Ledger. Who was too old for the role and also dead…
Pictures of him when he was young reminds me of Alex Pettyfer. Although I think Heath was a better actor, at least judging by the way my brother reacted to The Dark Knight and I Am Number Four, the second which I have never actually watched. (The latter had my brother whining about wanting his money back.)
Hmm… maybe Viggo Mortensen? I loved him in Lord of the Rings
Jude Law! He definitely has a smoldering edgy look. And if he was 17 or 18… man! He’d be a great jace!
Ryan Gosling!
I think Jake Gyllanhall would be a perfect older Jace! He was so sassy, cute and sarcastic in prince of persia!
I think Jake Gyllenhall would be a good older Jace! He was so sarcastic, sassy and hot in Prince of persia! I think he would make a great older Jace!
My time machine Jace is Jude Law! :”) He’s hair is not that long and his not blonde, though.
But there are all sorts of hair dyes anyway.
^^ Sorry, i doubled my comment.
Hmmm…I’ve always had a soft spot for Jonathan Jackson. Tuck Everlasting era, not his other movies. He was so sweet, yet really sarcastic in the beginning if I remember correctly.
Leonardo DiCaprio. Always loved him, always will (:
Ok, so I know this is kinda late, but have the perfect guy. Jensen Ackles
Totally hot and does the wounded, bad boy putting up a front thing perfectly.

Oh… there’s so many possible actors *looking through earlier comments* Jude Law, Jake Gyllanhaal, Viggo Mortensen? Damn, where is that genius time-machine when you need it? o.O Would have loved meeting them in their younger days… rrraw ;D
But I guess I have to make a final choice, right? even though it kills me xD so many old hotties (Why can’t I just be older?!) Oh, right… making a choice…
Ehm… Personally I’ve always had a soft spot for Emilio Estevez… and he was crazzzyyy in the Young Guns-movies… just watch this very short clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4HbzdvBJvs
HILARIOUS! ;D and he IS old… 48 years I think… *sigh*
I think I’m going to build myself a time-machine now… See ya! ;P
Umm Ryan Phillippe..He can really play the tortured and cocky, Like in Cruel Intentions!

I think Bradely James aswell ( King Arthur from Merlin) I was watching Merlin and saw him I didnt immediately think “JACE” but he has the hair, the looks and the attitude!!
I know this is late, but I think this was an interesting topic! I think Paul Walker when he played in Varsity Blues would be a okay “Jace” and another one would be Mark-Paul Gosselaar when he was Zack Morris in Saved by the Bell, they are too old now to play “Jace” and does not fit the image of Jace now, but when they were younger I would not mind being in a dark alley with them, LOL!!!!!!
Kieffer Sutherland or Val Kilmer…both WAY too old, and showing my age I think. But both would have been great – they had/have attitude to spare.
Alex Pettyfer IS my Jace. I read the description of Jace and he was the onnly person that popped in my head. I want him to play Jace more than anything! And I know they’re are ALOT of people who agree.!
OMG!!!!! Care Elwes would havee been perfect!!! I love him in robin hood men in tights and the princess bride. Too bad for the oldness……
What about Ian sommerholder ?
I would definitely say Alex Pettyfer though he need to get more muscular if you ask me then he would be PERFECT!
I would definitely say Alex Pettyfer though he need to get more muscular if you ask me then he would be PERFECT!
LEO!
I think Bradley James is great
Someone said Val Kilmer which would also be all right. God he aged bad. everytime i see a movie of him im like AHHHHH go back to Top Gun days
Legends of the Fall Brad Pitt….had the blond/destructive attitude nailed in that one…….and if he wasn’t a red head with freckles and someone who is sort of strange sexy……(I adore him) Eddie Redmayne. So good in Pillars of the Earth……
So this is really late but Leo DiCaprio is totally my pick. Either him or, like you said, Cary Elwes. Gah why couldn’t Elwes be born two or three decades later?!
Alex Pettyfer is the only one that could be Jace. the whole time i was watching i am number four i was like this man is Jace, yep its offical he is got to be Jace!!!!!!!
