Mundie Source’s Interview with Cassandra Clare

I asked Cassie to do a short interview for me, and she totally came through. My questions are bolded below, and Cassie’s answers are the regular type. Enjoy!

So I’ve tried to come up with questions that I didn’t think you’d answered a million times before. It’s completely possible (and likely) that you’ve answered a bunch of these, but I tried (AND I checked the FAQ!).

We’ll start with an easy one: Was there any particular reason you dropped the “The” in The Clockwork Angel and just went with Clockwork Angel? When I was at work, someone sitting at the table next to me commented that it was “clearly meant to be a play on A Clockwork Orange.” Was there any specific reason behind it or did it just sound better as CA instead of TCA?
The answer is: I didn’t. My publisher dropped it because they thought “The Infernal Devices: The Clockwork Angel” was too many “the’s.” I could have put up a fuss about it but it seemed minor! And it’s certainly not a play on A Clockwork Orange; much as I am fond of that book, there is, you know, an actual clockwork angel in “Clockwork Angel.”

The Mortal Instruments Examiner

Some of you may or may not know about the new Mortal Instruments Examiner. It is written by Natalie C. Markey, who recently contacted me about setting up an interview, since she is planning on spotlighting several fan sites between now and the release of Clockwork Angel. Of course I said yes!

You should definitely check it out, because it is a really awesome way to get the word out there about the series–both the books and the upcoming movies. You can read her article about Mundie Source, or go straight to all of the articles about TMI thus far.
